How a build actually runs
Five stages, and you always know which one you are in. First a discovery call, where we work out what the site has to achieve and who it is talking to. Then structure: the pages, what each one is for, and what a visitor should do next. Then design, where you see real screens rather than a mood board, and we settle the look before a line of code is written. Then the build, where the design becomes a working site and you get a private link to watch it come together. Then launch, which we handle end to end, including the domain, the hosting and the redirects from your old pages so you keep the search rankings you already have.
What you get, and when
You approve the design before we build, so there are no surprises at the end. You get the full source code, the hosting set up in your name, a site you can edit where you need to, and a handover walkthrough so nothing is a mystery. Timelines depend on scope, but a typical small-business site runs a few weeks from kickoff to launch, and the thing that usually decides it is how quickly content and photography come together, not the code.
What we build with, and why it matters to you
We build in Next.js and React, hosted on a global network, with the pages rendered ahead of time wherever we can. That is a technical answer to a commercial problem. A page-builder site loads a framework, a theme, and a stack of plugins before a visitor sees anything, which is why so many of them feel slow on a phone on mobile data. Ours send the finished page. In practice that means faster loads, better Core Web Vitals, fewer people leaving before the site appears, and no security patches or licence renewals to keep buying.
The honest limits
Hand-coded is not the right answer for everyone. If you need to publish several posts a week and restructure pages yourself on a whim, a content-managed setup may suit you better, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a build. What we are good at is sites where the design, the speed and the detail matter, and where the business needs something a template cannot bend to. If that is not you, a short call will establish it faster than a proposal.
What drives the cost
Every project is quoted individually after we understand the scope, and the price is fixed in writing before work starts. There are no monthly lock-ins and no surprise add-ons. What moves a quote is the number of pages, how much of the design is bespoke rather than repeated, whether the site needs to do something beyond publishing (payments, bookings, logins, integrations with software you already run), and how much of the content and photography we are producing rather than being handed. If a budget is tight, say so early and we will tell you honestly what is achievable within it.

Do you use WordPress, Wix or Squarespace?
No. We write the site in code, so there are no theme licences, no plugin subscriptions and no updates that quietly break the layout. If you are already on one of those and it is working for you, we will say so rather than talk you into a rebuild.
How much does a website cost?
Websites start at £1,079. What moves it from there is the number of pages, how much bespoke design is involved, and whether the site needs to handle things like payments, bookings or logins. Each project is quoted individually and the price is fixed in writing before starting. No monthly lock-ins.
How long does it take?
A typical small-business site takes a few weeks from kickoff to launch. Larger builds with custom functionality take longer. In our experience the timeline is usually set by how fast content and photos arrive, so we agree a schedule up front and keep you posted.
Will I be able to update it myself?
Yes, for the parts you will actually want to change. We set up editing where it is useful, such as your work, posts or prices, and leave the structural design alone so it cannot be accidentally broken. We walk you through it at handover.
Do I own the site at the end?
Yes, outright. You get the source code and the hosting in your name. There is no arrangement where the site stops working if you stop paying us, and you are free to take it elsewhere.
What happens to my search rankings when the new site launches?
We map your existing pages to the new ones and put redirects in place at launch, so the value the old URLs have built up carries across instead of being thrown away. It is the step most rebuilds skip, and it is why some sites lose traffic after a relaunch.
Do you work with businesses outside Edinburgh?
Yes. The studio is in Balerno and we work across Edinburgh, West Lothian and the rest of Scotland, with clients further afield too. Local projects tend to get an in-person start, everything else runs perfectly well over calls.
Can you help after launch?
Yes. We keep maintaining and extending the sites we build, and most of our clients come back for the next piece rather than starting again with someone new. We are not interested in building something and disappearing.
