Web development in Edinburgh

Websites, client portals and internal tools, written in code by a small studio on the west side of the city. Built to be fast, handed over properly, and yours to keep.

Development is the part that has to still be standing in three years. We build in ordinary, well-supported tools, keep the codebase legible, and hand over everything at the end, so the site is an asset you own rather than a subscription you are stuck inside.

If you are mainly looking for the design side of things, our web design in Edinburgh page is the better starting point. The studio is in Balerno, and we work across the city and out into West Lothian.

Written in code, not assembled in a builder

Everything we ship is React and TypeScript, usually Next.js, with Postgres or Supabase behind it when there is data to hold. No page builders, no theme to outgrow, and no stack of plugins quietly deciding how fast your site is.

For when a website is not the whole job

Plenty of work starts as a site and turns out to need a login, a dashboard, a booking flow or a link into software you already pay for. We build those in the same codebase rather than bolting on a second system that has to be kept in step.

Fast on a phone, on site, on bad signal

Most of our clients are trades and local businesses, so their customers are not browsing on fibre at a desk. Pages are built to render quickly on a mid-range phone with two bars, because that is the connection the enquiry actually arrives on.

Yours, and portable

You get the code, the repository and the accounts. Nothing is licensed back to us and nothing stops working if you decide to take it elsewhere. We would rather be kept because the work is good than because leaving is painful.

What we build

Three things, all in-house, all by the same small team. Most projects are one of them and quietly become two.

Websites

Marketing sites and case-study led sites, hand-coded, fast, and structured so search engines can read them properly.

Tailored software

Portals, dashboards, booking and quoting tools. The things that exist because no off-the-shelf product fits how you actually work.

Automated workflows

Connecting the tools you already pay for so a job stops being typed in three times. Usually the cheapest thing on this page and the one that saves the most.

Selected work

Web development in Edinburgh: common questions

What is the difference between web design and web development?

Design is what the site looks like and how it is meant to work. Development is the building of it: the code, the data, the speed and everything that has to keep running afterwards. We do both in-house, so there is no handover between two companies blaming each other. If you are mainly after the design side, our web design in Edinburgh page covers that.

Can you build something more involved than a website?

Yes, and often that is the point. We have built a client portal with project dashboards for a refurbishment firm, and a members area for a trading mentorship. If what you need is closer to software than to pages, that is tailored software rather than web design, and it is quoted separately.

What do you build in?

React and TypeScript, most often with Next.js, styled with Tailwind, and Supabase or plain Postgres when there is a database. Hosting is usually Vercel. These are ordinary, well-supported tools, deliberately, so that any competent developer can pick the project up after us.

Will you work on a site somebody else built?

Sometimes. We will look at an existing codebase and tell you honestly whether it is worth continuing or whether you would spend less rebuilding it. What we will not do is take on a site held together by twenty plugins and pretend it can be made fast.

What does development work cost?

Websites start at £1,079. Anything with logins, dashboards or integrations is scoped and quoted on what it actually has to do, because that is where the effort really varies. You get a fixed price in writing before any work starts, and we would rather tell you a project is too big for its budget than start it and find out.
